Cross-Country

Registration for the 2023 season is closed

Registration for the 2024 season will open in July 2024

The information below is for the 2023 season

Eligibility

St Anne’s CYO Cross Country team is open to boys and girls in grades K-8 (as of September 2022) who:

  • live within St. Anne’s parish;
  • attend St. Anne’s school; or
  • worship and attend faith formation classes at St. Anne’s Church.

Eligibility is governed by the Rules of CYO Long Island and the Rules of CYO Brooklyn.

What is Cross-Country?

In cross-country, runners compete against their grade or age group on race courses from one-quarter to one-mile through local parks. If your child’s never raced long-distance before, this is the perfect introduction!

Our “summer camp” workouts will build strength and endurance so that even first-time racers will be able to complete their course and improve over the season.

Registration

Registration for all St Anne’s CYO sports programs is done through our SportsConnect website. Parents create an account and enter information for each child, and the site will automatically display currently available programs. Follow the prompts to register and pay for each child’s registration ($40 for cross-country, $20 for summer camp). Children can register for cross-country, summer camp, or both.

Uniforms

To compete at meets, each athlete must have the official uniform shirt and shorts. If they have a uniform from last season or from track that still fits, they’re welcome to use it this season.

Parents must order uniforms directly from our online store, courtesy of SportLoft. The store will close on August 10!

“Summer Camp”

From July 11 through August 24, 2023, we will run our annual “Summer Camp” Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00-7:45 PM at St. Paul’s Recreation Complex, 295 Stewart Avenue in Garden City. “Summer Camp” is an opportunity for new runners to get in shape for cross-country, or for any kids to stay active over the summer. Registration is separate from Cross-Country; kids are free to do either or both!

Practices

From September 5 through October 26, 2023, all teams will practice together Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-6:45 p.m.at St. Paul’s Recreation Complex, 295 Stewart Avenue in Garden City. Parents must drop off and pick up their children at the fields; children are not allowed to walk themselves through the parking lot.

Meets

After years of competing in Brooklyn CYO’s cross-country league, we now have meets hosted by Long Island CYO as well and a “bonus” meet hosted by South Shore Running Club:

  • Sunday, Oct. 1, 11:30 AM-3:00 PM: hosted by Brooklyn CYO at Alley Pond Park, Queens
  • Sunday, Oct. 15, 11:30 AM-3:00 PM: hosted by Long Island CYO at Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset
  • Sunday, Oct. 22, 11:30 AM-3:00 PM: hosted by Brooklyn CYO at Alley Pond Park, Queens
  • Sunday, Oct. 29, 11:30 AM-3:00 PM: hosted by Brooklyn CYO at Alley Pond Park, Queens
  • Sunday, Nov. 5, 11:30 AM-3:00 PM: hosted by Long Island CYO at Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset
  • Saturday, Nov. 11, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM: hosted by South Shore Running Club at Belmont Lake State Park

Divisions and race distances vary among the three organizations. We’ll explain before each meet who’s running what and when.

Code of Conduct:

  • At the start of each race, the officials will line up runners in assigned spaces, therefore do not “coach” runners to stand elsewhere.
  • As you cheer our runners, don’t run alongside them. “Pacing” can get a runner or team disqualified.
  • As runners finish each race and enter the queue for collecting tags and awarding medals, do not hand them water bottles or stop them for any reason; wait until they have been moved through the queue.
